Re: Pedagogy and Student Services for Institutional Transformation:
Implementing Universal Design in Higher
Dear All - I recently circulated the above document - and asked for any
comments that we might share. Here is feedback from our Curriculum
Innovator, Digby Warren, Centre for Academic & Professional Development
(CAPD) here at London Met.

Dear Sandra - many thanks for this very useful resource
It is a welcome addition to my module on Curriculum Development (for our
PGCert/MA in Learning & Teaching in HE), with the various case studies
it offers of applying "Universal Instructional Design" [UID] to
courses/modules in different subject areas (including examples of
computer-mediated/based courses).
UK colleagues are probably familiar with UID as the "Seven Principles
for Good Practice" (Chickering & Gamson, 1987) cited in various
UK-published books on L&T in HE. It offers a cogent set of criteria for
reviewing and improving courses, but it is not a "design" model in the
sense of being a framework that can guide the actual process or
methodology of course design.
Nevertheless, it is really interesting to see how it has been applied in
the USA not only to courses/the classroom, but also to "academic
support" and student services.
Best wishes
Digby (Warren)
