Helen,
At Bournemouth, the dyslexia support tutors are part of the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team in the learning support unit which aslo houses study skills and PAL. A few years ago this was regarded as a good thing because it meant that we could refer students to the appropriate people easily. However, now the ALN team is so big (50 plus), study skills (1) is wrongly assumed to also be part of ALN by many students and staff which, as you can imagine, is not particularly helpful
Best, Alison

Subject: Dylexia Tutors in HE
Dear All
We are currently under going a number of departmental changes at our
University and I am researching where Dyslexia Tutors who work with
students with a DSA (Disabled Students Allowence) fit in with other
institutions? I would like to know which department employs the tutors? Are
they employed by the disability department or by another department, such
as Study Skills/Academic Skills? I would be really interested to find out
if there is a similar departmental structure throughout the majority of
institutions.
Many Thanks
Helen
