Thanks to all those who have posted suggestions. They'll be very
useful for me to use with our new academic staff.
My contribution is more speculative. About 25 years ago, I had a long
conversation about all sorts of things with our first staff developer
(like me a geographer turned staff developer) and he strongly
advocated singing lessons as a way of learning how to breathe and
project one's voice safely and sensibly. As a sometime member of
amateur choirs, I can vouch for the basis of this advice, even if my
voice has not received a singing lesson since primary school!
