Dear Colleagues
I am organising a one day seminar on the topic of
supporting the social integration of international students
within HE institutions and the wider community (see flyer
attached). Although the seminar will be pitched initially at
colleagues in UKHE business schools as there are wider
implicationsin this discussion it is hoped colleagues from
other disciplines will attend.
The date set is Wednesday 20th April and the seminar will
be in Bradford at the main campus of the University. The
seminar is financially supported by the HE Business Network
and is still at an early planning stage.
Dr Yvonne Turner from the University of Newcastle will be
the lead contributor, as Yvonne has a keen interest &
significant experience of supporting international
students, particularly Chinese students.
However, I am looking for other contributors with
a viewpoint or significant experience & interest in this
issue to give an input and lead discussion on relevant
topics; a counselling perspective, for example, would be
particularly welcomed, as would examples of how an
institution has set up social links for international
students with the community outside the institution, or
with other students within it. Each session would last for
up to an hour.
Expenses will be paid and it may be possible to negotiate a
small fee, if required for contributors. These business
network seminars tend to attract around 25-35 participants,
so it is likely to be a fairly small group and the emphasis
will be on sessions that both inform and engage the seminar
participants in discussion.
If you feel you would like to contribute as a topic
speaker/leader of discussion, please do contact me & I look
forward to hearing from you. Also, If you are interested
in attending as a seminar member, please let me know and I
can let you have more details in due course.
