Hello Ann,
I am the Study Support Tutor here at Bournemouth working within the
Learning Support Unit. Most of my colleagues are dealing with additional
learning needs whilst my line manager co-ordinates the PAL project. He
has about .2 of his time to give to study support so, in terms of
central provision, I'm it. I run four workshops a week and others as and
when requested by schools. I also see students on an individual basis by
appointment. Despite continued discussion I'm on a demonstrator
contract. Some schools have in house support tutors and there is a
separate set up for international students. However, I would say that at
least 50% of 'my' students are those for whom English is not their first
language. I also manage the web site which you can visit at
www.bournemouth.ac.uk/study_support and provide advice, guidance and
resources for learning support staff in partner institutions. Hope this
is helpful
Alison

Hi all,
Just to back up what John has said. I'm taking on board collating any
new or revised data in the LD picture and would like the raw data - no
need to tabulate just let me know by e-mail what you would like changed
or added . If there are any of you who have not yet contributed to the
list (Manchester being one!) please let me have your details. My trawl
of University web sites a year or so ago, using a range of intutive
search terms such as "study skills advice", identified 73 UK HEIs as
providing some study advice. We only have 25 on the LDHEN database. If
you're one of the remaining 48 do get in touch. The database is
accessible from http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/LDHEN/
and is the Excel file.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Ann
