I've just revised the summary for staff on our website, so hope this will
give you the information you want. It's at
http://staffcentral.brighton.ac.uk/clt/resources/PDP.htm (NB The Career
Planning Agreement referred to -introduced over past 10 years as a mapping
exercise for all undergraduate courses - was never just about employability
but much closer to what is now called PDP )
If you need (or can stand) any more detail, my report with recommednations
for next phase is downloadable from the same URL. Incidentally this points
out that the original 2005-6 deadline identified in the QAA/CVCP 2000
policy statement for the PDP element of Progress Files appears to have been
relaxed. They were very quiet about this, but the guidance that now appears
on the QAA website states that:
"given the number of HEIs that have opted for a longer time scale and the
number that did not participate in the consultation exercise, a 5 year
lead-in-time (2005/06 start date) is more realistic for the implementation
of policy across the whole system and for all HE awards. This will enable
PDP to be designed into programmes as they are reviewed and enable those
institutions that have experience and expertise to share and disseminate
their 'wisdom'. HE representative bodies and national guidance should
encourage HEIs to incorporate PDP into their strategic planning for the
development and improvement of teaching and learning.
(Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education Policy Statement on a
Progress File for Higher Education
http://www.qaa.ac.uk/academicinfrastructure/progressFiles/archive/policystat
ement/default.asp accessed 8/7/05)
In light of this, we decided to adopt an even lighter touch approach than
was already the case, but are rather belatedly drafting a University PDP
policy for approval at Academic Board just to clarify minimum expectations.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
Pauline

Subject: PDP updates
Dear Colleagues
Could you assist me?
I need to collect some base-line data about the state of play on the PDP
front for Learnhigher evaluation purposes. It would be
really useful if a few of you could give me a snapshot of where
you currently are with PDP - why you have developed the current
system you are using, if it's embedded in the curriculum in any
way and any anecdotes from staff and students on how they feel
about PDP as it functions in your institution. Even a few lines
on any of the above would be most welcome.
Thanks in anticipation
Sarah
