Hello Bill
AT Leeds we have adapted two resources which we use with Lv 1 students
on our 'Academic and Career Development module'
One is called 'Strategies for Survival' and involves dividing students
into small groups each with a series of problems or mini-case studies
relating to social/personal/academic/support issues. They go away as a
group and research the answers to the problems and then report back to
the larger group. Another is a card sort exercise adapted from some work
our Careers Service did on ' Making the Most of Your Experience'. It
encourages them to identify learning objectives in 5 key areas,
including Academic, Career Management, Learning and Study Skills,
Personal and Other. It usually gets some really interesting discussion
going about why they have come to university, what their aims and
expectations are etc.

Subject: Student Induction Programmes
Dear all,
I've been asked to lead a review of a three-day Induction programme for
'non-traditional' and home-based students, which has mostly been
'information feed'. I'm currently developing an approach which involves
group working, is active and inquiry-based - and wondered if anybody has
knowledge of good existing programmes/resources?
Best Wishes, Bill
