Hi Julia. I work in our Learning Support Service at TCD, much of it with
dyslexic students. Poor exam performance relative to obvious ability is
often associated with more than just handwriting. Poor hand writing is not
uncommon among dyslexic students. Perhaps you could get him screened
through your Disability Services. If he is dyslexic he might be able to get
a scribe. Laurie Lumsden (Mr)

Subject: handwriting
Hello
This was a new one for me and I cannot find many resources specifically
aimed at supporting this enquiry, so I wondered if anyone else had any
suggestions. A Management Studies student called into our drop in requesting
help with his handwriting which he felt was bringing his exam marks down. He
does well in course work and mcqs but always finds his exam marks much lower
than expected - his tutor looked through some papers he had done and agreed
that a lot of it was illegible.
We don't have any information on handwriting and I've looked through some
web sites but his real problem is the stress of performing in final year
exams and getting everything down in time in a way that assessors can read.
Anyone any useful hints and tips? (other than suggesting he breaks his arm
and gets a scribe!)
