Getting there and back again! Transport to learning for adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
14 December 2004
Lakeside Conference Centre, Aston University
Adult learners (19 years and over) with learning difficulties and/or disabilities may not have entitlements to funded transport to their place of learning. The quality of public transport and provided transport such as taxis and minibuses may be quite varied. A recent NIACE scoping study revealed that these issues and others such as the local interpretation of policy and the provision of travel/independence training could have a direct impact on the learning experience.
Transport has been recognised by the Social Exclusion Unit as a cross-government issue as the provision of transport impacts on health, education, work and the environment. Policies and schemes that seek solutions are still few and far between.
This conference aims to provide a forum to discuss these issues and to explore some of the developments that seek to enable learners to use the most appropriate forms of transport for them in cost effective ways.
