Dear colleagues,
I'd like to know if any other HEI's have adopted the 'Work-Life
Balance Standard'. This offers guidance to employers on
implementing or extending work-life balance schemes, and
recognition for these in the form of an accreditation scheme.
We have a pilot work-life balance scheme running in some of our
departments. This is open to non-academic staff, and is not
restricted to parents ie employees may wish to vary or reduce their
hours for any reason, and can apply to have their case considered.
This pilot is in addition to existing, informal schemes and of course
is in addition to statutory provisions.
For those of you interested in this area, the Dept of Trade and
Industry has a work-life balance home page:
http://164.36.164.20/work-lifebalance/
and a private consultancy organisation which administers the
standard has further info on their web page:
http://www.wlbc.ltd.uk/
If any of you have adopted the standard, or are considering doing
so, I'd be interested to hear from you.
best wishes,
Tracy Perkin
