Nicola,
Have you tried approaching different groups directly, for instance the
SU LGB Society? Have you had any luck in recruiting the SU in general
to help you promote these issues/committees? On our Equal Opps
Committee we have the SU EO Officer as a member (although I have to be
honest that they didn't attend last year, but the problem with part-time
executive positions is they are filled by students who are studying, and
often in their final degree year).
We have a good relationship with our Student Union which helps, and the
last few Presidents have been very proactive in regards to equal
opportunities issues.
Our Disability Officer approaches students in regards to attending
Disability Focus Groups based on those students she has had several
dealings with & who have shown an interest.
These things have worked for us, to a degree. I would also be
interested in how everyone else engages student interest & co-operation.

Subject: Student representation on Equalities Committees
Does anyone have any ideas on how to attract students to join our
University's Equal Opps Committee and its subgroups as student
representatives?
Despite using various promotion tactics, we have found that it is very
difficult to raise any interest or desire in the students to join the
groups.
I would be grateful for any advice you can offer.
Nicola
