Hi Alex,
Your assumption is correct; the body was formed based on the research by the Learning and Skills Council. The research found that there was a national demand from E & D practitioners in all sectors for a national body that could offer support, guidance, best practice and professional development.
Kind regards,

Dear Rajyaguru
Does this have any connection with the research into equality and diversity practitioners and the possibility of an Association that was undertaken by the Learning and Skills Council?
Regards
Alex

Dear Practitioners,
The Institute of Equality and Diversity Practitioners is launching on 26 January 2009. All equality, diversity and human rights practitioners are invited to attend. Other professionals with direct responsibility for delivering equality and diversity outcomes are also invited.
The Institute was established in May 2008 in response to demands from professionals working in the equality and diversity sector. It already offers benefits to members and plans to offer many more.
For more details, please see the attached flyer and log on to http://www.iedp.org.uk/ to book a place for the event. Numbers are limited, so please book early to secure a place.
By joining at an early stage, practitioners will help to shape the Institute's future direction. Please help us to promote the Institute and its benefits to practitioners by forwarding this email to other equality, diversity and human rights practitioners.
