> Dear colleagues,
>
> With apologies for cross-posting.
>
> Age discrimination law comes into force on 1 October. We are awaiting the final government regulations (which we anticipate will be published by early April) and we know from answering the many individual questions we have had so far on this issue, that you are just as keen to have them as we are. We plan to build up an FAQ section on our website shortly that will share our answers to some of the more frequently occurring questions. In addition, the joint UCEA/ECU working group will produce a series of practical guidance notes for heads of HEIs on matters relating to age (the first of which is due out very soon).
>
> Meanwhile it would help us if we could find out more from you all about how individual HEIs are responding to the forthcoming law. We would like to share what you tell us about emerging policy and practice with the sector (probably via an ECU Update as well as via the web and through other routes). We also want to find out more so that we can develop and improve our own understanding of the practical implications of the regulations for the HE sector.
>
> We would like to hear of any relevant activity but are especially interested in any developments around
> - staff development and training
> - internal communications/ external publicity
> - recruitment and selection processes/ policies
> - retirement
> - flexible working
>
> Please get in touch by phone or email. If you are happy to tell us of your work, but don't particularly want us to say which HEI you are from in anything we subsequently write or otherwise distribute, then please let us know that as well.
>
> See our website for more news on the work we are undertaking on age. Due out at the end of this month in hard copy is the ECU publication New Age Thinking, several copies of which will go to our primary EO contacts for internal distribution to colleagues.
>
> With best wishes,
>
