'The Importance of Being Equal and Diverse'
To be held at the Science Park, University of Wolverhampton on Thursday 25th
January, 2007
This conference launches the suite of publications arising from the Higher
Education Funding Council for England funded project on Equality and
Diversity Specialists and their role in organisational development. This
project was initiated by the Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network
(HEEON) and developed in Partnership with the Equality Challenge Unit. It was
managed by the University of Wolverhampton and some of the work was carried
out by the IRIS consultancy.
The Aims of this conference are to provide participants with:
· an improved understanding of how the work and attitudes of managers
and governing bodies shapes Equality & Diversity in
their institution;
· checklist Guidance on Equality and Diversity implementation for
Higher Education institutions;
· a better understanding of the Equality & Diversity specialists' role
in the Higher Education sector;
· an opportunity to discuss the ways these publications can be
effectively used in Higher Education Institutions.
By the end of the conference delegates will have:
· a clearer idea of how a sample of HEIs shape their Equality and
Diversity agenda e.g. by the work of managers and governing bodies
· guidance on required legal compliance and examples of good practice
in the HE sector
· clear information on the Equality and Diversity Specialists' role and
different approaches taken by HEIs
· participated in a discussion on future developments
