CUCO/AUA one-day workshop on EO issues outside the law
Background
1. In 1997, CUCO in partnership with the AUA ran a workshop on equal
opportunities issues outside the law, with a specific reference to class,
age and sexuality. Due to the success of this workshop, a further workshop
will be held on 6 July 1999 at CVCP, Woburn House, on age and sexuality.
2. The workshop will include speakers from the university sector,
unions, industry and campaign organisations.
Workshop objectives
3. To develop an understanding of the issues around ageism and
sexuality in relation to higher education institutions.
4. The session on ageism will consider the issues around ageism both
within and outside the HE sector. Information will be provided on the work
of the Employers Forum on Age (EFA) and how the EFA can support the sector.
Attention will also be drawn to the new voluntary code published recently by
the DfEE aimed at outlawing discrimination against older workers. A copy of
the code will be available for delegates.
5. This session on sexuality will look at the work of Stonewall and the
Lesbian and Gay Employment Rights (LAGER) from a higher education
perspective. Information will be provided on latest research and legislation
in this area.
Programme
6. The day will be a mixture of delivery and group discussion.
Handouts will be provided.
