TRAINING DAYS.
Trainer - Marie Hull, who has worked for a number of years as a
Personnel professional at the University of Plymouth and is a former
Chair of the EOHE Network is presenting 2 training days at
University College London during March.

BASIC TRAINING FOR NEW EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICERS
OBJECTIVES:
To gain knowledge of equal opportunities legislation and relevant
facts
To develop an awareness of minority issues in all areas
To develop skills in formulating and implementing an EO action plan
To practise addressing equal opportunities issues within own
institutions
The day will be a mixture of delivery, group work and role play.
Topics covered will include:
Where we are now - where do we want to be - how do we get there?
EO Legislation - Model University/College policies
Where to start - a personal EO action plan
Awareness raising on:
Gender and race
disability
other areas including sexuality, age and religion.
Refresher in basic listening and counselling skills
Practise in dealing with EO issues
There will be a group forum to close.

TRAINING IN EO RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
OBJECTIVES:
To gain knowledge of equal opportunities legislation and relevant
facts
To develop skills for use at the vacancy/advertising/shortlisting
and interview stages of recruitment in order to meet EO requirements
while recruiting the best person for the job
To practise dealing with EO issues during recruitment interviews
The day will be a mixture of delivery, group work, discussion and
role play. Topics covered will include:
Why is EO important in recruitment?
National legislation
Institutional policies and procedures
Getting the best person
Good practice
Viewing stages in the recruitment process through the EO
perspective:
Vacancy stage
Advertising stage
Shortlisting stage
Interview stage
Induction stage
Effective questioning and listening
Practise in dealing with EO issues at interview
Again the day will close with a group forum.
