Dr Meena Dhanda, Reader in Philosophy and Cultural Politics, Chair of the BME Staff Network at the University of Wolverhampton
And
Dr Meena Kandasamy, Poet, Writer, Activist and Translator with a PhD in Sociolinguistics.

Black History Month Soiree is co-hosted by BU Equality and Diversity and Black British Academics. Buffet and drinks will be served from 4.00pm and the programme will commence at 4.30pm, ending at 7.00pm, with networking until 7.30pm.
The evening features:
Keynote speakers: Kevin Hylton, Professor of Equality and Diversity in Sport in the Carnegie Faculty at Leeds Beckett University and world famous classical composer and cultural activitist Dr Shirley Thompson, Reader in Music at Westminster University.
Prof Hylton's talk is entitled: Humour as Defence: Black Coaches, Microagressions and Racism. Dr Thompson's talk is entitled: Heroines of Opera: Democratising the Art of Opera Writing and Performance.

* Welcome by Dr Deborah Gabriel, CEO of Black British Academics and Dr James Palfreyman-Kay, Equality and Diversity Officer at BU.
* A presentation by Bournemouth Kick-it-Out Group.
