Subject: Launch of the National Higher Education Black and Minority Ethnic Network of Networks: 26th June 2014 at the University of Leeds 10.30am - 4pm.
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Over the last 10 months a Network of Networks has been in development to support minority ethnic staff working in the higher education sector. The purpose of the Network is to support and facilitate collaboration between individual University staff networks and to provide a collective voice within the sector on common themes and issues around race equality.
The Network has been developed by a Steering Group, of which Shakina Chinedu, Diversity Advisor, from University of Oxford is the acting Chair. On behalf of the whole group, I would like to invite you to the launch of the Network of Networks on 26th June 2014 at the University of Leeds. The launch will be of particular interest to Chairs of University staff networks and minority ethnic staff at institutions without a university staff network.
The launch will provide you with:
- An opportunity to meet other members of minority ethnic staff networks, and share experiences and ideas
- Hear from our guest speakers, including:
o Dr Deborah Gabriel, founder of Black British Academics
o Franstine Jones, President of The National Black Police Association
o Detective Sergeant Charles Critchlow, Out-going President of The National Black Police Association
- Have a say on how the Network of Networks should operate going forward
The steering group is keen to ensure that the Network is run by and for minority ethnic staff within the sector, and as part of the launch we will be inviting nominations for positions in the future, formal Network Committee, and will be voting on these positions on the day. . For full details on how to get involved in the committee, nominate individuals for specific positions and how to vote are all included in the attached document.
