Adrian;
In order to ensure that the Club or Society does not have any aims/beliefs in their that counter our E&D Policy, the Society Constitution that every Student Society has to have includes something about not breaching the 'principles and values set out in the Union's E&D Policy'.
Also; every Society is vetted before the Campus Specific Committee of Volunteer Elected Officers before it is made offical; and they can veto it if they believe it breaches the E&D, or any other Policy; and will not bring the SU in disrepute etc.

Subject: Student societies
Good afternoon,
Does anyone have any examples of policies or good practice in relation to student societies? I am specifically interested in the challenge of maintaining the rights to freedom of speech, while at the same time ensuring that discrimination does not occur, and equality is promoted. Also, how have institutions decide on what societies are “acceptable” – for example, cultural, political, religious etc?
I have the ECU’s ‘Promoting good campus relations’ guide which is a good starting point, but I was wondering if there is any other guidance available?
Many thanks,
Adrian
