Hello all,
We were asked by Unison to consider introducing disability leave. This
is not going as far as not counting disability related sickness absence
as sickness but rather having leave provisions for staff who need to be
absent for a reason related to their disability for example, guide dog
training. We will look to incorporate this into our special leave
arrangements.
We do record disability related sickness absence as sickness although we
have certain mitigating circumstances whereby people don't hit triggers.
I relation to Disability Leave, a model agreement can be found on the
UNISON web-site.
Regards

We do not currently have one. However you might be interested in the
guidance (attached) drawn up as a joint agreement for the FE sector.
This can be accessed on the UCU, Unison and I believe the Association of
Colleges websites.
Best wishes

Subject: disability leave
Dear All
I have been asked to ask the following questions, so without further
ado!
I am trying to find out whether anyone has a policy/procedure in place
regarding:
- disability leave (sometimes referred to as 'rehabilitation leave')
- disability-related sickness absence
- separate record-keeping of disability-related sickness absence
If you have, it would be helpful if I can have sight of the
policy/procedure.
I appreciate your help and assistance in this matter.
With thanks,
Hiten Shah
