Dear all,
We've been double-tick symbol users since 2001 and use it in all job
advertising. Although we monitored the job interview guarantee scheme very
closely, we didn't have a previous basis of comparison. (In any case, it
wasn't as though nothing else had changed, as in a controlled experiment!)
For us, the main benefits have been in respect of user education. There was
a fair bit of this when we introduced the Job Interview Guarantee Scheme,
particularly in the first couple of years, e.g., "users" being chairs and
other members of selection / shortlisting panels. We did have to challenge
some decisions (which provided opportunities for one-to-one user education),
and we continue to do so, but over time we think it's resulted in better
quality job descriptions & person specs, as well as better quality
applications.
You could of course implement job interview guarantee schemes and the other
commitments without actually being a symbol user. However, it's more
difficult to convey this to job hunters at the point where they are
considering whether to apply or even make an informal enquiry. Use of the
symbol does that for you, since it also serves as external validation of
what you say you do. I would stick my neck out and suggest that it's not
only disabled people who look out for the symbol, since if your recruitment
processes are fair and inclusive for disabled people, there's a pretty good
chance they're fair and inclusive, full stop.
As for resources, mainly time.
Best wishes,
Faith

Subject: The two ticks symbol
I would like to hear from colleagues at HEI's that have gained the Two
Ticks Symbol. Could they tell me what difference gaining the symbol has
made to the recruitment of disabled people at their HEI. What have been
the resource implications both human and financial.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Syd.
