Dear Colleagues,

I received the following e-mail from the BBC and they are trying to
encourage graduates from black and minority backgrounds to consider careers
with the BBC....a form of Positive Action approach to addressing the under
representation within the BEEB.

So why am I sending it to you?

Well, those of you who feel they can use this as part of their Positive
Action approach in working with students from various racial group
backgrounds could include this in your Race Equality Policy Action Plan
tasks, if you so choose.

You could also pass this information to your Career Advisers and/any
significant others, for them to make sure that they bring this to the
attention of all black and minority students/graduates that they will be
dealing with.

Sometimes, because people have never considered the option, they will never
consider it until they are reminded that the option is theirs to choose if
they so wish. This, after all, is what Equality and Diversity is all about.

So please, those of you who can, do the necessary with this and see how we
can add value to our work towards best practice for all who work and learn
in our institutions.

Any feed-back will be most welcome.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards, as always.

Dear Mannie

Further to our recent conversation please see below the kind of information
I require in order to begin the process
of encouragaging EM students to consider a career at the BBC, and in
particular within the Specialist Factual department.
(Science, History, Business, Religion, Natural History and Arts)

* The top 10 universties/colleges favoured by EM students
* Subjects studied in particular the Classics, Arts, Sciences etc.,

Please also include any further information you think may be useful to
convince "the powers that be" that these programme
areas are of interest to EM students.

It would be great to meet up and share our experiences at some stage.

I look forward to hearing from you

Best wishes
Jan
