Dear EO Jiscmail,
Here at the University of Bath we are holding a conference that looks at the
issues of women in science, engineering and technology. The conference is
called SET in the South West and takes place on 26 June 2002. We will be
asking questions such as "Do women have to work twice as hard in these
careers? Do women face more obstacles than men getting up the career ladder
in academia? What can be done?"
The University of Bath is host to an important conference sponsored by
Athena (ECU). The conference takes place on 26 June 2002.
The theme of this conference focuses on the methods higher education
institutions can use to assist women in science, engineering and technology
to progress within their chosen field, develop effective networks,
investigate appropriate support mechanisms as well as achieve a good
work-life balance.
The conference will consist of speakers of national significance along with
workshops based on the issues of role models, networking, mentoring and
work-life balance.
Speakers include:
Marie-Noelle Barton MBE, Director, WISE Campaign
Professor Glynis Breakwell Vice Chancellor, University
of Bath
Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell CBE Dean of Science, University of Bath
Professor Julia Goodfellow Chief Executive, BBSRC
Caroline Fox Athena Project (ECU)
During the lunchtime session there will be an opportunity to network and
hear about the 'Springboard' personal development programme for women
graduates and 'Navigator' a similar programme for men.
How much does it cost?
There is a nominal charge of £30.00.
