Dear Ged,
>This may sound a rather strange request but has anybody done any eo
>training with male white managers.
I don't know of any directly. I have friends who work in Health Promotion
who have experience similar to yours, in that they regularly run workshops
for Police & fire Sevices, and for budding Vicars and budding Foaster
fathers, on HIV and sexuality issues.
I teach very predominantly white, male classes of mature student teachers,
sometimes ex-armed forces. I always find the dynamics a bit of a challenge!
Every year I also run a workshop for male student-primary teachers, and I
plan to expand this work.
Finally, I have a little (increasingly rusty) experience of running a Mens'
Support Group, through reevaluation co-counselling; this was about
personal, rather than professional development, and all present were
volunteers. The backgound was very explicitly anti-racist, anti-sexist,
anti-heterosexist and anti-able bodiedist.
I remember an organisation called something like the 'Network for new mens'
leadership' that did training at managerial level for industry; the name
that comes to mind is Michael Simmonds, from Bristol.
So there you are; education tutor I am, but somewhere in me is a man who
wants to teach men (self included) how to change!
let me know how you get on! Best wishes,
Nick Givens
