Dear Anna, We have taken the following steps:
1. Reviewed the role descriptions
2. Used our local networks, advertising in local and regional papers, we have managed to attract a couple of BME members and more women.
3. We also state clearly in our recruitment of external Council membership that certain groups are under-represented and are encouraged to apply.
We started doing this in 2012 so it is a process that has to be sustained in the long term to recruit and keep minority groups. They may also need some support initially to integrate and function effectively in what is sometimes a very different cultural environment.
Kind Regards
Anne

Subject: Diversity of Council Membership
Dear All
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of increasing the diversity of Council membership at your institutions?
We are looking to recruit a new member of Council and would like to use this as an opportunity to increase the diversity of membership at this level.
Has anyone got any experience of this or any suggestions of where to advertise/who to approach?
Thanks and best wishes
