Subject: Request: Information about accessibility signs used in access guides
Dear colleagues,
Do you know if there is a standard in the use of accessibility signs used in access guides?
If yes, please could you tell me where I could find information about the standard signs.
Colleagues are looking to improve web information about accessibility of different OU locations and are keen to use the appropriate signage. Any information you are able to provide would be most welcome.
Best wishes
Penny

Subject: An Invitation - Supporting the development of equality and diversity skills, knowledge and values in academic teaching staff in higher education institutions (HEIs)
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to invite you to contribute to a significant research project: Supporting the development of equality and diversity skills, knowledge and values in academic teaching staff in higher education institutions (HEIs) (www.dmu.ac.uk/equalityresearch<http://www.dmu.ac.uk/equalityresearch>).
The overall aim of this research project is to explore the approaches that HEIs in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are taking to develop the equality and diversity expertise of academic teaching staff and to assess the effectiveness of these approaches. The research project is commissioned and funded by Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) (www.ecu.ac.uk<http://www.ecu.ac.uk>) and being carried out by researchers at De Montfort University with ethical approval.
We are inviting 2 levels of involvement:
1. The first is to invite all academic staff who teach or support learning to engage with the confidential and anonymous on-line questionnaire (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ED-expertise-HEIs). Please could you forward the link on to academic colleagues.
2. The second is to invite your HEI to become a named case study for the research. We are interest in hearing from a wide range of HEIs including: those that have worked to embed equality and diversity into academic teaching staff development and review, those that are reviewing and considering this, and those that have faced challenges in this and actively rejected this approach. We are keen to make contact with HEIs who can share their experiences of one or more of the following:
* embedding equality and diversity into staff development for academic staff who teach or support learning.
* embedding equality and diversity into regular professional development review processes for academic staff who teach or support learning.
* experiencing challenges at institutional or individual level to embedding equality and diversity into staff development for academic staff who teach or support learning.
* experiencing challenges at institutional or individual level about embedding equality and diversity into regular professional development review processes for academic staff who teach or support learning.
Those that are selected to become case study sites will be contacted and asked to set up contact between the researchers and key members of staff at the HEI involved in staff development, academic teaching staff and students' union representatives, whom the research team will then seek to interview.
I would be delighted if you would submit an Expression of Interest to us. Please note the closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 1 November. Further details can be found here: www.dmu.ac.uk/equalityresearch<http://www.dmu.ac.uk/equalityresearch>. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this in more detail.
Best wishes,
Christine.
