Hi all
A few years ago I was involved in a project for ECU about reasonable
adjustments for disabled staff. Representatives from Access to Work
were on the advisory group. They told us they do NOT require
educational psychologist reports as evidence of specific learning
difficulties in order to provide Access to Work funding.
Institutions generally try to make sure that any member of staff who
is struggling with the skills they need to do a job is supported to
overcome any difficulties. If that support involves in-house solutions
which utilise existing support structures and no additional funding
then you may choose not to require formal evidence of a diagnosis.
If Access to Work do not require an EP report either then there may
not be any need to arrange for assessments.
However where you might be called upon to make decisions about
contributing to financial support for disabled staff you may decide
that evidence is required in order to ensure a fair distribution of
resources to support all your disabled staff as best you can. If this
is the case you can decide what kind of assessments you use, what
specific tests you want included (which can impact on the cost) and
who you commission do undertake these (EP, specialist teachers etc).
Regards
Tina
