Dear Kathryn
We have a network of Initial/Harassment advisors, who act as first point of
contact for anyone who feels they are being bullied/harassed etc.- staff or
students. This is a voluntary role, which I co-ordinate. When I first got
involved with the group their main concern was that they wanted more training
and development to help them carry out the role effectively. One of the
group acts as convenor and we all meet once each semester, where we have a
training session which they have determined generally delivered 'in house'
and general chat on case work, any themes etc and sharing info and good
practice. We provide initial training and IHA's can chose to undertake
refresher training.
Our IHA's are invited to the lunch time session of our main induction to chat
to new employees and raise the profile of support available, and they also
get involved in events such as our world mental health day, annual diversity
and equality event. Their details, along with biographies and photos are on
our intranet.
I hope this is of help, not exactly the same group, but I think the ongoing
training, regular meetings and presence at events has helped.
Regards
Alison

Subject: Diversity Advocates
Dear All
At the University of Chester we currently have a network of diversity
advocates who are intended to be the link between the Faculties and
Departments ('on the ground') and the University-wide D&E Committee, with
duties such as passing on information, providing advice to colleagues, being
an info point on D&E matters etc. However, recently I feel this network has
lots its purpose- the advocates currently do little more than circulate an
information bulletin I send out monthly.
I wonder if anyone has a similar network that works well and has some drive
and purpose who could give me some tips, advice, ideas for re-energising the
network?
I have attached the intended roles and responsibilities of the advocates to
show what they are supposed to do.
Any help would be much appreciated
Regards
Kathryn Fagan
