Dear Fehmeeda,
We have made some changes but this was as a result of our Gender
Equality Scheme and also due to SMT support of the findings.
We now advertise vacant posts for Council including targeting
under-represented groups. We have also started monitoring applicants to
these posts by different equality categories.
We also took some positive action measures to increase the
representation of women in key decision making bodies/committees by
amending the guidance issued to Chairs and Secretaries of Committees.
They now consider gender representation prior to appointing new members
and this has helped increase the number of women in these Committees
over the last two years.
Regards
Anne

Subject: Governing bodies, equality and diversity
Dear All,
We have been reflecting on the handbook for governors of HEI's on
equality and diversity that was produced by the Equality Challenge Unit
and the Leadership Foundation.
I thought this document was very well written, accessible and useful. I
was wondering whether colleagues had made any changes as a result of the
guidance in this document particularly with respect to improving the
diversity of their governing bodies?
Many thanks
Fehmeeda
