Dear colleagues,
I have recently been informed that my university may be obliged to write
to a number of overseas students who have applied to study for a PGCE
here to tell them they may not be accepted. This is because the UKBA
will not allowing be visas for overseas students who spend more than 50%
of their course on work placement. There is more information about this
in the attached document, under PGCE (page 4).
It appears to me that not only is this discriminatory but it is
hindering UK universities from recruiting overseas students at the very
time their potential to recruit UK students is being limited.
Has anyone else come across this issue or have any thoughts about it?
Best wishes,
Moira
