Have attached our policy. Have experienced no resistence as have always
taken under 18 year olds, though in very small numbers, if they have the
academic ability to undertake the course. All we have done since the
legislation is formalize our approach with a policy.

Hi all
I was just wondering if anyone else was meeting resistance with
removing
admissions barriers based on age?
We seem to be very reluctant to allow students under the age of 18 to
enter
the university. Our current policy states:
If an applicant is 'under age' for their intake session the offer
should be
deferred until the first intake session where the applicant meets the
a
ge criterion. The offer should inform the applicant that it is
deferred
because they are 'under-age'.
Applicants may not delay their registration during that intake cycle.
If
they do not meet the criterion on 1 September, they must be deferred.
At present I have been instructed that we are not looking to change
this,
partly because they believe there is a child protection issue.
From current guidelines it seems pretty clear to me that child
protection
as a reason for retaining admission barriers for under 18's will not
be
considered as reasonable. I have fed this information back up, but they
are
still firm on retaining this part of the policy.
Has anyone else had similar issues?
