Dear Parin
I am responsible for equality and diversity training at Portsmouth. We
have no separate training resource for equality and diversity and I have
to try and fit in as much as I can round the rest of my work as Equality
& Diversity Adviser.
I deliver mainly to staff though I do try and see groups of new
students that are unlikely to attend Freshers (eg post grads) when
possible for a short induction on E & D.
Handouts on E & D are given to all new students and staff and I have a
stand at both Freshers Fair and the New Staff Induction Day.
I deliver sessions to management on discrimination legislation,
harassment and bullying and equality impact assessment as part of a
rolling programme administered by our Management Development Team
throughout the year. This would be approximately 4 sessions a year on an
update on discrimination legislation, 2 on harassment and bullying and
at the moment about 6 on equality impact assessment. I am also
responsible for training for Harassment Advisers though we have used
external providers in the past. Our Personnel Department runs training
on fair recruitment and selection, grievance etc.
I have attached the details of equality & diversity training that I
publish in our Staff Development Handbook.
Some departments plan their own E& D training and use external
providers.
We have over 2,000 permanent staff.
I hope this is useful.
Regards
Alex

Dear All
I am trying to get a feel of what is happening nationally on aspects
of
diversity/equality training. I am putting together a report for our
management on the continuing need for diversity training at our
institution. For that, I would really appreciate it if you could
provide
me with some diversity training data from your institution.
Can you please let me know:
1) Who is responsible for the delivery of Diversity Training at
your institution
2) If this person(s) does training for staff, students or both
3) If the diversity/equality trainer is a full-time or part-time
member of staff, on fixed-term or open-ended contract or an external
consultant?
4) The average number of staff your institution has and the
average
number of diversity/equality training session that your institution
offers in a year (calendar or academic).
You do not have to give names and personal data of who is delivering
the
training. Personal data will not be disclosed in my report. The
information received will be collated and added as supportive evidence
in my report for the continuing need for a diversity training
practitioner at the institution. I hope you can help.
You can write to me directly or to the list. My e-mail address is

Your responses will be most helpful.
