Dear all
As one of the people HR would be counting I couldn't agree more with
Michelle! What relevance does my particular medical condition have on
the way I will be treated in work?
Deb, as a Deaf person I have less 'issue' with being described as
having a 'sensory impairment' than I do with being called deaf/hard of
hearing. The categories for deafness can be disaggregated in a very
similar way to include communication methods etc (I pride myself that I
probably wouldn't fit into any particular 'pigeonhole' comfortably!)
this could be a longer rant, but I'm not sure that beyond some catharsis
it would be of much use.
I still, however, consider that my status is that of 'disabled person'
as defined by the social model of disability (and nearly backed up by
the DDA!).

Subject: Re: New proposed changes to disability information by HESA
Hi,
The expanded categories will be useful as long as the information is
used to introduce targeted action rather than simply as a box ticking
exercise. I think there is a danger that unless resources are in place
they'll be an overload of information that no one uses to deliver any
practical benefits..
Best wishes
Michelle
