Hi,
At Hull University we have a separate Disability Officer for staff and
one for students. The students tend to get more support than staff as
there is more funding allocated to their reasonable adjustments. We have
an IT specialist supporting students but no equivalent support for
staff. This is an area that has been recognised for improvement in the
DES. We have adopted the Social Model of Disability and want to change
our focus to supporting staff in a more supportive and dignified way.
Most of the funding for supporting staff tends to come from the
Employment Service. However there are cases where joint funding between
the university and employment service is utilised i.e where a member of
staff needs a full time admin/support officer. Please come back to me if
you need further information.
Regards
Anne

Subject: supporting disabled staff
Hi,
As part of our DES action plan we are reviewing how we support disabled
staff & their managers within the University.
I'd be interested in finding out how other universitys are managing this
& would be especially interested to know if there are any universities
where support for disabled staff & students is managed by one team.
I'm happy to collate & circulate any responses I get.
Many thanks
Michelle
