Dear Colleagues,
At Newcastle we are currently drafting a policy on Religion and Belief.
We have been asked to make provision for how we deal with "cults" or
take steps to limit the activities of groups we have good reason to
regard as harmful. There is a concern that in doing so we could be
accused of being prejudice on the grounds of religion or belief. However
we need to be able to carry out our duty of care to students where there
is a genuine concern for their safety.
Have any other institutions come across this problem? Have any other
institutions made provision in their policies for this kind of issue?
Any information would be gratefully received.
Kindest Regards
Julie
