Dear Colleagues,
I understand that the ECU is taking legal advice on this and other student related issues on behalf of the sector. Liz Sutherland is the advisor in this area.

Subject: Re: AGE DISRIMINATION IMPLICATIONS
Kate,
We're just beginning to look at this. We do not have University
accommondation, and don't have any maximum age limits for courses, which
has simplified matters somewhat. As far as I understand the situation
with regard to minimum age requirements, we need to decide whether to
prepare an objective justification for not taking any student below 18
(which is our current advertised policy), or consider each application
on an individual basis (which is what we currently do in practice). If
we choose the latter route, we may run into some Child Protection
issues. Has anyone else given thought to how to deal with the Child
Protection implications of (potentially) having larger numbers of under
18 year old students studying at their institution?

Here at Exeter we are reviewing our student related policies in light of
the Age Discrimination Legislation and wonder what progress and
difficulties other universities are experiencing
-Admissions
-minimum age entry requirement
-accommodation
-student access fund for 25+
-national courses which are externally validated
and possibly other stuff which we have missed
cheers kate
