Subject: Re: Retirement Age
Dear Tracy
We haven't formally decided yet - our terms and conditions were more or less
harmonised a few years back and the default retirement age is currently 65
for all staff, and a regulation that states that Academic staff can be
retained with a 2/3rds majority of council up to age 70. There are various
forms of wording in various contracts which mean staff can opt to retire
from 60, but the pension schemes have changed the benefits structures which
mean some are now liable to actuarial reduction if they do.
At the moment I don't think we would favour abolishing fixed age retirement,
but will wait to see the final form of the legislation before deciding.

Subject: Retirement Age
Dear all,
I would be grateful if you could please let me know what your institution
plans to do about retirement ages. Do you plan to set a default retirement
age of 65 giving employees the right to request working beyond that age, or
would you consider abolishing fixed retirement ages altogether?
Thanks.
Best wishes,
Tracy.
