Dear Colleagues,
The Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) will shortly be issuing a web based consultation on the forthcoming age discrimination legislation and what this may mean for higher education institutions. Essentially, we will be seeking your views in identifying principal areas of challenge and uncertainty so that any subsequent guidance we produce together with other key sector agencies, will be grounded in the needs of the sector. The consultation will also include questions on retirement issues. We will be sharing the findings of this exercise with the sector later in the year and urge you all to respond.
In the meantime, if any of you are responding to Tracy off list, we would be grateful if you can copy us in.
With best wishes

Subject: Retirement Age
Dear all,
I would be grateful if you could please let me know what your institution
plans to do about retirement ages. Do you plan to set a default retirement
age of 65 giving employees the right to request working beyond that age, or
would you consider abolishing fixed retirement ages altogether?
Thanks.
Best wishes,
Tracy.
