Dear colleagues,
We have a student accommodation policy of maintaining a balanced, tolerant
living environment, in relation to sex, nationality, etc. in University
owned accommodation. Our supply doesn't always meet demand, so our
accommodation office also assists students find private sector accommodation
when required, and/or where students' strong religious, cultural or dietary
beliefs prevent them from living in this kind of integrated environment.
However, we've recently had a request from a Hindu student that he and other
Hindu students be offered separate University accommodation, ie together,
because they eat vegetarian food, don't drink or smoke & have strict kitchen
hygiene practices which are difficult to maintain in mixed groups.
Do your Universities get requests like this, and if so, how do you deal with
them?
Thanks,
Faith
