Sarah,
The equality unit here at Plymouth provides briefing papers on EO issues for senior manegement, staff and training purposes. The last one we did was on positive action in employment. It provides an overview of each equality strand, although it is not intended to be relied upon as legal advice. It does contain practical examples of each strand including race equality. I could send this to you if you thought it would be helpful.
We have also been undertaking a positive action programme regarding promotion from both a gender and race equality perspective that has been submitted to a draft HEFCE good practice guide as a case study so you may find that useful. Let me know via my direct email.
Regards,
Mel

Subject: Employment - Positive Action examples
Hi all
Hope you are all surviving the weather !
I am taking a report to two Committees next week (Equality & Diversity and
HR Developemnt) reccomending the use of positive action to address areas of
under-representation in the workforce.
I know the theory and can find many examples of such actions where gender
is the issue.
Can anyone share examples of positive action taken (that have worked) to
address under-representaion of disabled poeple and Black staff - the latter
particularly at senior level ?
I am currently impact assessing our personnel policies (or HR are !) and
establishing Employee Networks for minority group staff.
Thanks everso
Sarah
