Dear Ruth
Thank you for sending me the guidelines. They seem excellent and thorough and I
have no comments at all about substance. However i I may I'll make a few
editorial suggestions and bits that as a reader struck me as strange.
p. 3 para 9. This might be my prejudices (against Tory legislation)
showing, but it might be interesting to know the date of the Act which held
Section 28. Also I know I should remember, but is it still in existence?
p. 4 para 15 The example of the use of the SDA is rather difficult to
follow - it's definitely a lawyer's formulation, but I wonder if it's worth a
rewrite? I had to read it twice.
p. 8 para 35, 6 lines up A typo - 'a' should read 'are'
p 11 para 43. 'the only known homosexual to many people' seems a bit
clumsy to me - though I'm not sure how to reword it.
p. 18, para 64
line 2 - I think 'perceived by some people' might be better - it would
recognise that many people are more liberal than this.
line 5-6 I would sugest 'The key to eradicating ....' (don't think the
word 'concept' quite fits.
p 28, para 95, 4 lines up - 'affect' not 'effect'?
p 29, para 98, first line - I think everybody, not just most people,
have an identity other than their orientation?
As you will see, the comments are really minimal, and the guidance is going to
be very helpful.
