Dear colleagues
First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Liz Sutherland and I
have recently joined the Equality Challenge Unit as their Policy Adviser on
Disability and Age. (My last post was with the OU in Scotland as their
Adviser for Disabled Students).
I started with ECU on July 5 and I am only just beginning to find my feet
here but one thing that I have been asked a few times recently is if I can
provide information on which HEIs in the UK have signed up to the 'two
ticks' scheme - positive action for disabled people. At the moment, my
knowledge of which HEIs have and which haven't signed up is not in any way
comprehensive and is just based on what I know already from work in the
sector and what I read in job ads. I am also aware that there is a range of
views on the value and practicality of the scheme - and I'm aware that not
all EO officers hold a remit for staff matters.
However, in order to be better able to respond to this query,I wondered if
those members of the AdminEO list who would feel happy
- letting ECU know if their HEI has signed up or is in the process of
signing up for this scheme
- letting ECU know if their HEI has considered this scheme but has
subsequently decided not to take it forward
could get in touch with me?
If ECU were to hold such information, then when a HEI makes contact with
ECU and asks for advice on the scheme, we could then put them in touch both
with similar HEIs who support the idea and similar HEIs who - for whatever
reasons - have decided that on balance it's not the best mechanism for
them for promoting positive action.
If you are willing to share this information then please do get back to
me.What would also be helpful would be to have the name and contact details
of the key person in the HEI who can speak with experience on the topic.
With good wishes
Liz Sutherland
