Apologies for cross posting
Dear Colleague
I have pleasure in sending you further details of the Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network's Annual Residential Conference: 'The Equality Jigsaw: Delivering Equality and Diversity in the Higher Education Sector' to be held at the University of Birmingham's conference centre on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th June, 2004.
This conference focuses on the question of how to include the dimensions of equality and diversity into strategy, policy and service delivery in Higher Education.
There are increasing demands on Equality Practitioners in the Higher Education Sector driven by legislation and funding requirements. However, the key driver is still good practice and the challenge facing the Sector is to ensure that it promotes equality and diversity in all aspects of the delivery of its wide ranging services for students.
To be successful Equality Practitioners need to harness the enthusiasm of a wide range of staff across their institution and to offer practical tools to help them achieve their objectives. Staff need to feel that they can and do make a difference.
By the end of this conference you will:
· have an understanding of the importance of mainstreaming equality and diversity in strategic plans
· be familiar with a range of equality toolkits and how they have been used to promote good practice in Higher Education
· have an understanding of the key issues in promoting equality and diversity in teaching and learning
· have an understanding of how equality and diversity are being integrated into student support services
· have learned from practical examples how some practitioners have overcome the practical and human barriers that can hinder progress
A programme and booking forms can be found on the admin-eo jiscmail site for your convenience:

Please forward this message to any colleagues that may be interested in this conference.
If you would like to attend this event please advise Michele Lefevre, details below, as soon as possible as places are strictly limited.
Many thanks
Michele
