Hi Susannah,
The point is that discrimination can take place at the interview stage on the basis of EO related characteristics which become evident then although the monitoring form has been removed. ( The Sikh Turban is one way ethnicity becomes evident, though ethnicity often refers to ethnic group, used as another way of saying a group which is distinct. I try to avoid 'race' as it has no scientific basis. Whatever language one uses here there will be difficulties giving rise to some objection or another, reflecting the complexity of the issues)
Vincent, if you appear English you will not in England be discriminated against for your 'Englishness'. Discrimination does not always occur round the identity you own, it is based on how you are perceived. Many black and minority group people regard themselves as British being born here and having lived here all their lives but they can get discriminated against all the same.
Hope this clarifies what I was saying. Berry

Berry, why does somebody's ethnicity become evident at interview?
I seem to have missed something.
Susanna.
