Dear Richard
We send out a separate form, with a separate envelope for returning the
form, marked confidential HR open only. All applications are returned to
HR, except for our Facilities management dept (weekly paid staff -
catering/domestic). This has now led to difficulties for monitoring and we
are now having to give them access to our computerised systems so that they
can continue to manage their own recruitment.
As they also manage the records for their weekly paid staff in post as well,
we are also having to do this so that we can complete the new HESA return.

Subject: Staff Recruitment Monitoring
Dear All,
We are currently re-designing our application form for staff.
Currently, the section for equal opps monitoring is not separable from
the rest of the form, but I would like to make it a tear-off section in
the new form. This proposal has raised some difficulties with our
operational HR staff, because of the way our recruitment process
operates. For academic and senior support staff positions, the
applications are returned to HR, so we could detach the EO monitoring
section, but for all other positions, inc research, the applications go
direct to the School/section concerned - with no guarantee that they
will detach the monitoring section before it reaches the recruiting
manager, nor any obviously easy way of matching the EO data with the
outcome of the selection process.
So, a couple of questions for you:
1 - Do you have a tear-off, or separate, EO monitoring section with your
application form?
2 - Do you operate a central recruitment function, through which all
applications are routed?
3 - If the answer to 1 is 'yes', and 'no' to 2, how do you solve the
problem? Do you have a IT recruitment system that allows devolved input
by recruiting departments?
I shall be happy to post a summary of responses, and to engage in any
dialogue with interested parties!
