Naseem,
The Equal Opportunities Steering Group at Essex was set up in May 1993,
the group is chaired by a lay member of the University Council. There
are 14 full members some elected, some as a requirement of office. The
membership covers trade unions, students, senior University staff,
academic and non teaching staff. Others attend by invitation. The EOSG
is part of the University's committee structure and reports to both
Senate and council.
EOSG has run focus groups when feedback has been required e.g. most
recently with regard to the RRAA. There are regular EO reviews of areas
of the University's operations and working groups are set up as and when
required. Reviews and working groups involve the wider University
community not just members of EOSG. Some of the present initiatives from
EOSG involve the review of one of our administrative sections and two
working groups one on taking forward the requirements of SENDA and one
on Women's Progression in academic life.
I am replying to the whole network as I find this kind of shared
information can be very useful.
Best wishes,
Syd.

Dear All
I am interested in learning about Equal Opps Committee in your
institution:
1. information on when it was set up,
2. who normally chairs,
3. size of the committee
4. where the committee reside and reporting lines in the overall
committee structure
In addition if there are EO advisory groups/ forums/ specialist groups
please care to provide similar info.
Please accept my thanks in advance of your reply.
