We are in the process of writing guidance notes for both staff and students. So far we seem to have a number of issues to address in
relation to religious belief (are we a secular institution and what does that mean, leave for religious festivals, the timing of
examinations, extenuating circumstances for students, catering, dress codes etc.) but none in relation to sexual orientation other than the
general not discriminating against, harassing or victimising. Are there other issues we should be considering ?

Subject: Information for staff on forthcoming Regulations on Sexual Orient ation and Religion or Belief
Dear colleagues
We are currently drafting further guidance for managers regarding the above in respect of staffing issues. We are also considering
providing a (brief) guidance note for all staff about the forthcoming legislation and reminding them of their responsibilities in respect of
discrimination legislation generally. Is anyone else planning to do this or done anything along these lines in the past? Would be grateful
for any help/suggestions. Thank you. Regards Dawn Steel - Personnel Officer (Directorate Services) The Open University
