Dear Colleagues
As you may know, HEFCE, along with other funding bodies, is conducting
a review of Research Assessment. One of the questions is:
'How can a research assessment process be designed to support equality
of treatment for all groups in Higher Education?'
I would be interested to know how colleagues are approaching this
question, particularly in view of research by the AUT which has shown
that women, black and ethnic minority staff and staff with disabilities
have been disadvantaged in previous Research Assessment exercises, with
possible consequent effects on their career progress.
As it is an area that HEFCE has identified specifically in their own
Race Equality Scheme, I wonder whether Mannie and colleagues have any
good-practice guidance for HEIs in addressing this important area?
Regards
Virginia
