Here's her message:
I run a theatre company called Red Bobble in Manchester and we're in the research and development period for our next production called 'To walk in your shoes.' This is a collaboration between our theatre company and my sister Rachael who's a professional photographer to gather stories and images from individuals who are seeking asylum, have been given status or are destitute.
The project is to help raise the profile of a charity in Leeds called PAFRAS (Positive action for Refugees and Asylum seekers) as they are having funding issues. They do a lot of work in helping individuals with mental health problems. We also hope the project will raise awareness of the struggle that these individuals face and also help to remove some of the misconceptions perpetuated by the press.
The project will result in an exhibition supported by a piece of verbatim theatre which will debut in Leeds in April. We are currently in the process of applying for funding and hope to tour this around the country to raise awareness.
What we are looking for is individuals who would be willing to tell their story and possibly be photographed. Would there be any chance you could put us in touch with anybody willing to tell their stories please? All stories are welcome, with particular emphasis on how people came to be in England/why they were forced to leave home.
Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Kelly Munro-Fawcett.
