Brian -
You ask:
". . . I am assuming Kathryn is willing to have her work analysed in this way?"
I'm afraid I believe that any document that has been placed in the public
domain may be critically appraised by anyone as part of an ongoing process
of validation. My BERA review was posted on the Net and a group of students
in Canada responded; some were constructive, in that they understood my
meaning as I had intended and built new meanings on it)- and some were
simply baffled and one or two were even moved to anger, such was the variety
of different readings made of the same text. I love the idea of hermeneutics
and the writings of Hans-Georg Gadamer on it.

A note to all gathering around this thread - I have just started a daily
course of 33 sessions of radiotherapy treatment at the RUH, having had an
errant organ removed last April. I am having to balance the business of
arriving late at work and completing the 'daily round' as well as responding
to this thread. Thus, whatever conversation we do have in the coming days is
likely to be slow in terms of how long it takes me to frame replies. Please
have patience if you direct something for my attention. Also, Jack has
posted his Kathryn response to the wrong thread and will repost it to this
one (assuming he presses the right button). He asks for the other posting to
be ignored.
